In
recent years I have found myself wielding a pen
more often than a baseball bat. Though I’ve
hit many homeruns with both, I find the older
I get the more colorful my life becomes. Several
years back, at a time when my grandmother was
suffering from Alzheimer's disease, I was sitting
in a diner in Northern New Jersey with a pen
and paper. At that moment I had never felt the
need to write more. Before I had finished my
cup of coffee there was a song on the page about
Gracie. The muse, spirit or whatever one needs
to call it, was made apparent to me that day.
And, she rears her pretty, little head when I
least expect it. Not long after, my grandmother
passed
away. The song was a gift to
her and the family. Since then, I have written
several plays, a film, an episodic series, and
countless songs. Ten of these songs will be debuted
in a cabaret this March, including Gracie’s
Song. |
